Health Screenings

Routine Screenings

Women are already more likely to suffer from routine conditions like heart disease, stroke, and depression – however, Hispanic and Latino women suffer disproportionately from cancer and diabetes.

Routine screenings are a way to take control of your health so you can live a long and healthy life. Blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, eyesight, and blood glucose are a few of our most commonly offered screenings, but your doctor may also recommend a test for your bone density or other screenings based on your family health history.

At AltaMed, our mission is to make sure everyone has the same opportunities to access health care and achieve overall well-being. Depending on your insurance, you may qualify to get many routine screenings at no cost.

Mammogramns Breast Health

Mammograms/Breast Health

If you’re a Hispanic or Latino woman, there’s a 1 in 5 risk that you’ll develop breast cancer by the age of 50. That’s why early detection and prevention is so important.

There are steps you can take right now to minimize your risk for developing cancer. It’s never too early to learn the right way to give yourself a breast exam. Mammograms can also be life-savers. An AltaMed doctor can recommend screenings based on your family history and your own personal risks.

Supportive services

Behavioral Health

As a woman, it’s important to take care of your behavioral health. Women are much more likely to suffer from major depression, anxiety, and the negative effects of stress. And no matter if the cause is physical, mental, or emotional, we want you to feel comfortable and confident to seek out treatment.

For some people, these feelings may be temporary and quickly resolved with counseling or peer support groups. Others may require more focused treatment and even medication to help them feel better. We’re dedicated to connecting you with the right care: compassionate, personalized, and confidential. Remember, you are not alone.

Fibroids & PCOS

Uterine fibroids and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are common health problems that can cause pain and other harmful symptoms.

If you experience heavy bleeding during periods, pain in the pelvic region, or increased urination, it could be uterine fibroids. Left untreated, these non-cancerous growths can lead to other issues. Diagnosis is performed by ultrasound, and your doctor will help determine the right treatment plan.

PCOS, or polycystic ovary syndrome, occurs in roughly 10% of people who have ovaries. It can lead to irregular periods, weight gain, hair growth, and other serious issues like uterine cancer or type 2 diabetes. Exams and lab testing can help detect PCOS. While no cure exists, medications are available to manage symptoms.

For these and other women’s health concerns, AltaMed has you covered.
