AltaMed Statement on the Passage of Federal Health Legislation
LOS ANGELES, CA. – July 7, 2025 – For more than 55 years, AltaMed Health Services has been committed to eliminating disparities in health care access and outcomes—providing high-quality, culturally responsive services to all Californians, regardless of ability to pay.
We are profoundly disappointed by the passage of H.R. 1—a measure that threatens the health coverage of millions of our fellow Americans, including 5 million across Los Angeles and Orange counties currently enrolled in Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program.
This legislation undermines the progress made under the Affordable Care Act, stripping away vital subsidies that help working families afford coverage through the state exchange. Without this support, millions of Americans may be forced to forgo health insurance altogether, placing their health and financial stability at risk.
At AltaMed, we see firsthand the difference that access to care makes in people’s lives. We urge lawmakers to reconsider policies that roll back protections for our most vulnerable communities and instead focus on strengthening—not dismantling—our health care safety net.
