AltaMed Health Services Receives $250,000 from DaVita to Support COVID-19 Testing and Medical Evaluations

LOS ANGELES AltaMed Health Services, the nation’s largest independent federally qualified community health center, has received $250,000 from DaVita, one of the largest providers of kidney care services in the U.S., to support COVID-19 testing and medical evaluations.

As community spread of COVID-19 continued and the need for testing became more prevalent, DaVita provided AltaMed with funding to sustain access to COVID-19 testing at its medical centers across Los Angeles and Orange counties.

“When the pandemic was declared, AltaMed quickly put the infrastructure in place to offer COVID-19 testing in underserved communities, but we could not sustain the demand for testing without community and corporate support,” said Zoila D. Escobar, AltaMed Health Services chief administrative officer and president of the AltaMed Foundation. “We’re grateful to DaVita, who shares a similar mission to provide high-quality health care that improves the health outcomes for vulnerable populations, for supporting our testing efforts.”

“At DaVita, we believe creating a healthy community takes all of us, working together,” said Dr. Jeff Giullian, chief medical officer for DaVita Kidney Care. “It was our pleasure to provide a donation to AltaMed to help the underserved in our communities get better access to testing. We share AltaMed’s commitment to high-quality care for all, through the pandemic and beyond.”

DaVita is a global health care provider focused on transforming care delivery to improve quality of life for patients with kidney disease. In California, DaVita serves nearly 38,000 patients in more than 400 centers.

For more than 50 years, AltaMed has provided access to quality health care services, regardless of the ability to pay. AltaMed serves more than 300,000 patients annually through 27 health centers across Los Angeles and Orange counties.
