Do you need to schedule an appointment for your COVID-19 symptoms?
In partnership with Keck Medicine of USC, one of the nation’s leading health centers, we are offering a COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool. Answer a few simple questions to help you determine if you should seek medical care, based on the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). If you have any questions, please call our Patient Service Center at (888) 499-9303. It is important to call us before you come into a medical office or urgent care site.
**Please note this self-assessment is for advisory purposes only. The information provided is not conclusive, is not meant to diagnose or treat medical conditions, and does not replace medical advice. For the most accurate results and information, contact your health care provider.
COVID-19 Outdoor Evaluation and Testing Sites
AltaMed is making every effort to protect the community and ensure that we have the resources available to continue to meet all health care needs. To protect our patients, staff, and surrounding community, AltaMed has established outdoor medical evaluation and testing sites in Los Angeles and Orange Counties to limit COVID-19 exposure inside our health centers. Locations and Hours
Outdoor Evaluation and Testing Sites:
To schedule a screening:
- Current AltaMed patients can call our Patient Service Center at (888) 499-9303.
- For those who have not visited AltaMed before:
It is important to call or register online before you come to an evaluation/testing site.
You will not have to pay for COVID-19 screening or testing
This includes both AltaMed patients and those who have not visited AltaMed before, including those who are undocumented. A new USCIS guideline indicates that such treatment or preventive services will not negatively affect any undocumented person as part of a future Public Charge review.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we are committed to helping families access health care, regardless of their ability to pay. Our COVID-19 evaluation and testing sites are made available through local, state, and federal funds, and private donations. However, if you have insurance, billing your insurance allows our funds to go further and test more people.
COVID-19 Testing County Guidelines
Los Angeles County
COVID-19 testing is now available at no cost to all residents in Los Angeles County. You do not have to have COVID-19 symptoms to be tested. However, priority will be given to people with symptoms and essential workers such as health care and grocery workers. This is subject to change as we adjust our guidelines to align with the latest LA County Department of Public Health guidelines and CDC recommendations.
We are evaluating all individuals who make an appointment with us, but testing is only available to those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, per the latest Orange County Department of Public Health guidelines. These criteria are subject to change as we adjust our guidelines to align with CDC and County recommendations.
The CDC currently associates the following symptoms with COVID-19:
- Shortness of breath
- Repeated shaking
- Muscle pain
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
How to Care for COVID-19 Symptoms
Whether you are a current AltaMed patient or have not been seen at AltaMed before, it is important to call us first. Your care options include talking to a provider via a telephone or video visit or, you may be directed to one of our outdoor evaluation and testing centers. Call our Patient Service Center at (888) 499-9303 for assistance.
Protecting Others If You Are Diagnosed
If you are diagnosed with COVID-19, let anyone who has been around you within the 48 hours before your illness know that they too need to quarantine themselves for 14 days after their last contact with you. Los Angeles County residents may also call our Patient Service Center to schedule a COVID-19 test.
Follow these guidelines until your symptoms go away and you have not taken or needed any medication for 72 hours and it has been at least 10 days since the start of your symptoms.
We’re still here for your regular health care needs
If you have a scheduled appointment, or would like to see a doctor, call our Patient Service Center at (888) 499-9303 so that we can assess your needs, offer you a telephone appointment, or direct you to the best location for care (in some cases, it may not be at your regular location).
Whenever possible, we try to keep our patients out of waiting rooms to avoid unnecessary exposure to other sick patients, but if you require regular care due to diabetes, high blood pressure, pregnancy, or another condition, we want to make sure you continue to receive the medical care you need.
Telephone and Video Appointments
As recommendations to stay at home have been extended, telephone and video appointments may be the best way to connect with your doctor, dentist, or health care providers so you can continue to manage chronic conditions or other health care needs. Phone and video appointments are available for:
- Routine questions and care
- Behavioral Health visits
- Dietician services
- Screenings for dental emergencies

Our Dental Services Are Open and Ready to Serve You
We have received permission to re-open AltaMed Dental Services from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). We know this came just in time as many of you and your family members are overdue for your dental care due to the COVID-19 shutdown.
We have done our research on the best ways to make our dental offices safe for patients to come for treatment and for our employees to work. We are following the guidelines prepared by CDPH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the California Dental Association (CDA) about how to safely return to practice.
We have adjusted how we receive and see patients based on these guidelines to keep everyone safe.
