AltaMed Services: Primary Health Care

Primary Health Care
The Primary Health Care services offered by AltaMed are designed with the belief that the patient always comes first. To us, this means not only understanding our patients’ medical needs, but also understanding their background; their customs, values and beliefs. In this way our services are always culturally relevant and always appropriate, truly meeting the total health needs of our multi-ethnic communities.

Moreover, through partnerships with some of the State’s major private and public health insurance groups, we are able to offer patients the convenience of “one-stop” primary care for all members of the family. And our Federally Qualified Community Center status allows us to provide services to the uninsured as well as the under-insured.

With 7 medical clinics in the greater Los Angeles area, AltaMed is a leading provider of primary care with services that include complete general medicine, geriatrics, women’s health, family planning and pediatrics. We pay particular attention to these services because we understand that if women receive health services, the whole family is more apt to also receive the preventive and curative care they need.

Our clinics also provide assistance with enrolling in low-cost or no-cost insurance programs such as Healthy Families, Healthy Kids, Medi-Cal and other government funded programs.

  • AltaMed is the largest provider of HIV/AIDS services to Latinos in Los Angeles County. Our services are comprehensive including everything from prevention counseling and treatment to potential inclusion in clinical trials.

  • Our youth programs are designed to help teen mothers and partners understand the health, social and economic challenges of having a child at a young age. Our goal is to provide good health and education on becoming good parents while also continuing their own education, all in an effort to decrease the number of teen pregnancies.

  • As for health education, we have long believed that knowledge leads to power over your individual health. Our health education programs include smoking cessation clinics and diabetes seminars.

  • AltaMed also offers drug treatment and prevention services, all geared towards creating a healthier outlook on life.
