Annual AltaMed Gala Most Successful Ever

More than 600 donors, corporate partners, local elected officials, community members and AltaMed employees celebrated healthcare access for all at the AltaMed Venetian Carnival Gala on Friday, March 11th, 2011.  In addition to raising $550,000 for the organziation, three awards were presented to individuals and groups who have made significant impacts in healthcare.

The Visionary Award was presented to Care 1st Health Plan.  Care 1st Health Plan is a provider-friendly health plan with a "Patient 1st" philosophy of care.  They are committed to the expansion of managed care for Medicare and Medi-Cal populations to improve access to care and health status.

The Mentor Award was presented to Monica Lozano, Publisher & CEO of impreMedia.  Lozano is widely regarded as one of the most influential Latinas in the country serving on the boards of Band of America, the Walt Disney Company, the University of California and the University of Southern California.  She was appointed as a member to the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Borad and the newly formed Council on Jobs and Competiveness by President Barack Obama.

Grey's Anatomy was honored with the Impact Award.  The Impact Award honors the achievements a group of individuals whose professional and personal accomplishments have significantly enriched the lives of the underserved.  The cast of Grey's Anatomy presents stories of health care disparities, the need for increased access to care and promotes health education.

The Venetian Carnival Gala held at The Beverly Hilton featured an awards ceremony, dinner, dancing and musical entertainment provided by the Louie Beltran Cruz Band.  Guests were also treated to carnival mask decorating, ball walkers, living statue performers and a live auction featuring a European Royal Caribbean Cruise, jewelry and four primer seats to a Lakers vs. Clippers basketball game.

Based on the ancient Venetian celebration that transcended all social order and norms, and sought to level the playing field for all classes, the "Venetian Carnival" theme, celebrates a day soon to come when there will be access to quality health care for everyone.
